PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Field Office Taiz and technical guidance from the Construction Engineer, BEGE Section, S/he contributes to school rehabilitation activities. The field engineer will work very closely with the field office Education Officer in planning and implementation of all rehabilitation and construction activities. S/he will provide technical support to Governorates office of Education Engineers in conducting engineering needs assessment for the affected school buildings physical conditions, identifying the types of work required to restore structural integrities and the other required functions, preparing specifications, bills of quantities, drawings and cost estimates. She /He will prepare a plan for monitoring the ongoing rehabilitation / construction activities the quality and time schedule.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Revise the results of the structural assessment which will be conducted by Governorates Office of Education Engineers.
• Review Bills of Quantities ,Specification and the description of work for each school for a purpose of minor or major rehabilitation
• Review and update the prepared cost estimates.
• Receive, review, forward and track status of submittals and change orders.
• Assist in preparation of bid packages.
• Attend bids opening and, initial and final deliveries of rehabilitated schools.
• Conduct a weekly site visit to monitor the quality and progress of implementation, provide shop drawings and advise when necessary and generate a weekly progress reports to be shared by the Construction engineer.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES:
Education: University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
Experience: Five (5) years of professional work experience at national levels in monitoring and quality control the implementation of minor rehabilitation work. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization an asset.
Language: Fluency in Arabic (written and verbal) is required, English is an asset .
