ACTED is an international, non-profit development and humanitarian organization working in over 30 countries worldwide. Our interventions seek to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach. ACTED Yemen is currently recruiting a qualified Agronomist for its office in Ibb.
The Agronomist position functions under two hierarchic supervisors. In terms of day to day management he/she is managed and supervised by Project  Manager, and at a higher level under the Program Manager and/or Area Coordinator.
 

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Program Manager, Agronomist carries out the following duties: 
•    Be responsible for field staff as relates to agriculture components
•    Organize and  participate in meetings with community leaders, MoA&I and other government offices as necessary (invite local authorities to activities such as trainings and distributions, etc.)
•    Assist with selection of beneficiaries and with the complaints mechanism put in place, and follow up on any issues that may arise as a result. Ensure community acceptance of the project
•    Coordinate with other project officers to ensure clear understanding of overlap and other issues with beneficiary lists – cooperate and assist the Food Security, Livelihoods officers, and Agriculture Field Assistant in their capacity (provide training and guidance to project staff on matters related to agriculture as needed)
•    Work closely with the project team and the agronomists from the Hodeidah and al Jawf 
•    Ensure that the field team is well-informed of project activity details 
•    Ensure that all the activities are implemented properly and as per the plan in timely manners
•    Provide informed input to the selection, purchase and storage of crop seeds, home gardening seeds and seedlings – help in preparing work plans and BoQs for different activities connected to agriculture inputs
•    Supervise the distribution process, ensure that it is properly done and finished on time and according to set criteria
•    Work with farmers to manage and improve crop production, fertilization, irrigation, integrated pest management techniques – support farmers by regularly communicating in the lead up to and throughout the life of crops
•    Work with beneficiaries to manage and improve home gardening, crop production, irrigation, etc. (organize meeting to get relevant feedback from the beneficiaries)
•    Make sure signed beneficiary lists are correctly cross-checked with collected copies of IDs – keep database/documentation updated
•    Participating in assessment field visits to targeted area to identify beneficiary areas and households – carry out the assessment as per the methodology and the guidelines 
•    Training the project beneficiaries in the field according to the project’s tasks
•    Preparing training materials brochures, booklets, posters etc. for the training sessions
•    Assist with the planning and distribution of agriculture inputs (according to the needs of beneficiaries, planting season, etc.) and update the Distribution Plan after each distribution and share it with the Program Manager
•    Keep the following databases/documents updated at the end of each week:
a.    GPS coordinates database
b.    Lists of Beneficiaries and copies of their ID
c.    Beneficiaries Details database
d.    Preparation Checklists / Reports
e.    Distribution Reports
f.    Post-distribution Checklist/Reports
•    Cooperate and assist to the Database and the AME (Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation Department) in their monitoring
•    Participate in the project assessment and analysis and drafting of assessment reports  
•    Actively participate in meetings (program, coordination, etc.), generates weekly and monthly progress reports on the project activities 
•    Propose new project directions and strategies as required in close consultation with Program Manager and/or Area Coordinator
•    Performs other duties requested by Program Manager and/or Area Coordinator
•    Respect deadlines

Qualifications    
•    A university degree in Agriculture or other relevant field.
•    At least 3-year experience in a position with similar responsibilities, preferably with a non-governmental organization.
•    Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity (esp. gender and ethnicity) is required
•    Excellent interpersonal skills required, as well as the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with a variety of audiences (e.g. beneficiaries, community committees, and other team members). 
•    Leadership skills and very good organizational skills are required
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, work efficiently under pressure and in stressful circumstances, and meet short deadlines.
•    Fluency in Arabic and English required.
•    Good computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point) required.
•    Understanding of the principles of non-governmental organizations is required.

Specifications
•    6 month, renewable contract
•    This position has a salary of: $1,110 USD
