Position: MID-WIFE - MOBILE TEAM
Location: Zahra, Lahaya district (Hodeida) and Alqabeta district (Lahj). (with 100% travel to the target communities)
Reporting to: Nutrition Officer

Background:
The Development Program Division closely works with country program team in identifying, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating development projects and program in collaboration with local, national and international partners.
It focuses on the Recovery and Development of strategic areas and support communities to develop a sustainable livelihood, coherent Islamic micro finance system, food security, water sanitation, social cohesion and community based infrastructure projects to support communities affected by conflict, civil war, natural and man-made disasters. The overall objectives of the development division are to alleviate poverty and suffering of human kinds by providing them with long term sustainable program in collaboration with international donors, INGOs and UN agencies.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
Job Responsibility #1: Provide care of mother and baby, adhering to medical protocols and maintaining an awareness of issues such as health and safety.
• Diagnosing, monitoring and examining women during pregnancy;
• Providing full antenatal care, including screening tests in the community and the home;
• Identifying high risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and other medical specialists;
• Arranging and providing parenting and health education;
• Providing counselling and advice before and after screening and tests;
• Offering support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
• Supervising and assisting mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of the foetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management;
• Giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing and making up feeds;
Job Responsibility #2: Plan and organise SFP among Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) at designated distribution sites in liaison with the Mobile Team Leader
• Prepare plan of action for effective SFP implementation among PLWs in consultation with the Mobile Team Leader
• Work closely with the CHVs to ensure all PLWS are measured correctly
1. Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the CHVs, including admission and discharge
2. Ensure comprehensive health checks and treatment according to the agreed protocols
3. Monitor supplementary feeding rations and ensure they are distributed according to the agreed protocols
4. Complete the forms and ensure completion, accuracy and coherence
• Ensure adequate availability of SFP ration and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with Mobile Team Leader
• Ensure mothers not meeting admission criteria understand why they are not admitted
• Record lessons learnt and report to the Mobile Team Leader.
Job Responsibility #2: Strengthen the outreach service
• Follow and respect the national protocols
• Follow the treatment of the beneficiaries during visits at home
• Selects CHVs from the community with relevant government stake holders/partners and arrange basic or refresher training for them with the OTP nurse ;
• Supports community mobilization of beneficiaries along with CHVs;
• Facilities and organizes and build skill and knowledge of care takers on appropriate feeding practices, basic hygiene and sanitation
• Provide key health and education messages to beneficiaries based on the protocol and guidelines
• Teach community volunteers how to disseminate key education messages within their communities and propagate messaging through other community channels
Job Responsibility #3: Perform other duties as assigned.
• This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task
• Inform the Mobile Team Leader of any professional problems encountered
• Conduct all duties in a professional manner following IRY staff regulations and charter
• Be flexible and adaptable with regards to the implementation of the daily work
Requirements:
• 2-3 years experience in community as mid-wife nurse in Hodeida
• Good in English and fluent in Arabic.
• Ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field
• Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to distribution sites
• Knowledge and practical experience of the national/international mid-wife protocols/guidelines
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Previous experience working for NGOs is an asset
